In the Grip

In the Grip is a natural continuation of those dark, existential feelings. It is an expression of what it feels like to have everything you’ve worked for slowly stripped away. Simply put, it’s soul sucking.

At a certain point, it becomes so overwhelming that you begin to give in. The once fiery anger fades into a quiet sadness and reluctant acceptance. I’m not typically one to give up when things get hard, but after exhausting every avenue, what else can you do?

It's not a feeling that anyone wants to be stuck in, but sometimes the best thing you can do is allow yourself to feel every bit of the pain. Trying to ignore it, only prolongs it.

Now this piece, as well as many others, are reminders of what I have survived. I don't look at this with dread, regret, or sadness. Another layer of symbolism has been added with time. It's like a badge of honor. I had the courage to honor my feelings.
